HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition, New Craft mapping out the future

A creative incubator driven by research, design and sustainability.

New Craft at HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition is a positive road sign pointed far into the future of fashion, accessories and jewellery: its leading figures are tomorrow's talent. This exhibition space sets out to be a varied, significant creative incubator driven by research and design, with a series of ideas which currently focus largely on sustainability and upcycling.

Looking towards the future and how fresh talent is approaching it: PS Red Whale creates accessories using only surplus materials found in tannery and manufacturing company warehouses; MagmaLaB experiments with recycled plastics, turning them into truly unique contemporary jewellery; while Officina Orafa di Brunella Sola offers silver-mounted recycled plexiglass pieces for colourful and extremely light contemporary jewellery. And there’s no lack of technique and technology: V Design Lab creates recycled silver and brass collections, plated with 18ct gold, all drawn by hand then engineered using specialist software, making use also of 3D printing.

This unique layout actually reawakens the imagination and stimulates curiosity: September's edition also features some representatives of the slow fashion ethos, designers who envisage a more responsible approach to production, and therefore consumption. The resulting benefit is having exclusive creations, cutting-edge craftship and high-quality manufacturing. A broad and complex theme that emerged with urgency during the year of the pandemic which all of us, designers included, were called to tackle with awareness.

Contemporary jewellery manifests at its best through studying masses, how they develop in space and how they adapt to human anatomy. Ingranart by Simona della Bella offers unique pieces made with watch hands and gears: a true creative challenge that’s also reflected in the concept of time, taking on a particular affinity with the ethos of ‘slow fashion’.

HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition - 18th to 20th September 2021 - is your chance to discover the new ideas on offer at the New Craft section, with national and international research projects focusing on a new way of understanding fashion and the future.
