Milano Fashion&Jewels: young talent, sustainability and upcycling for the fashion of tomorrow

The collaboration with the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) continues to support emerging creatives through the “Contemporary” upcycling project, which will culminate in a fashion show during the February event.

Valuing the new generations of creatives, while promoting sustainability and sharing, has always been a fundamental part of the vision of Milano Fashion&Jewels, which, on the eve of its February edition, proves to be an exceptional stage for the young talent of tomorrow.

Continuing the successful partnership established a few seasons ago, the event has updated its panel of collaborations though its key alliance with IED Milano and the students of its Master in Fashion Design. “Contemporary” is the name of the resulting project, focusing on upcycling and tailored to the individual personality of each creative, which will culminate in a fashion show - scheduled for 12.30pm on 25 February at the event's Fashion Hub - showcasing the work of ten talented up-and-coming designers.

For Milano Fashion&Jewels, guiding the players of the fashion system of the future from the school benches to the first catwalk is a source of pride and a great responsibility, underlining once again the importance of its constant scouting and networking activities. The involvement of an organisation with an international profile such as the Istituto Europeo di Design confirms the cosmopolitan nature of the event, which knows no frontiers and aims, season after season, for progressive enrichment capable of welcoming different ideas and translating them into immersive and highly distinctive projects. In a word, the perfect litmus test for the creativity of the future, just as in the case of “Contemporary”, where the initial input focused on upcycling and was expanded by the contribution of each student, who added their personal interpretation in the light of their own experience. It is here that aspects such as memory, both familial and geographical, DNA and roots, traditions and suggestions for the future, passions and interests that accompanied the growth of each student played a fundamental role. The fabrics used, such as tea towels, were folded to allow for experimental techniques as well as to trace the past, preserving the memory of what they were in order to project themselves into a new form, which is the very essence of the upcycling concept. Accessories, garments reborn from fabrics originally intended for other uses, or vintage pieces reinterpreted in a streetwear key; transformational shapes alongside others which saw different ways of experimentation; processing techniques that went beyond the ordinary to make the unexpected truly - and literally - pret à porter.

A creative world is waiting to be discovered at Milano Fashion&Jewels, with a fashion show on 25 February at 12.30 p.m. in the Fashion Hub area (pavillion 10) of Fieramilano.

The following IED Milano students took part in the “Contemporary” project: Attilio Pallagrosi, Silvia Marsano, Tamar Bregadze, Mariana Maurity, Nirvana Rahmani, Neshat Jeganegi, Pasquale Montoro, Ines Barreto, Sophie Kuhar, Surabhi Awate.
